At the end of 2019, Holy Covenant’s Senior Minister of 15 years, The Rev. Dr. Nancy Ellett Allison, retired from our century-old church. Now led by an Intentional Interim Pastor, church leaders have begun the process of discerning and calling our next settled pastor.

THE SENIOR MINISTER SEARCH

The governing body of Holy Covenant, our Consistory, has named a Pastoral Search comprising eight people from our key church committees. The team will receive resumes and interview potential candidates, with a goal of welcoming our new Senior Minister in our near future.

Position Description

A progressive congregation committed to social justice and Open and Affirming since 2000, Holy Covenant UCC seeks an experienced, full-time Senior Minister. Our worship style is fairly traditional, with a blend of music that includes hymns, American roots music, and contemporary genres. We hold one Sunday morning service each week with an average attendance of 100, and are accustomed to challenging and thought-provoking sermons. Our 300 members are drawn from throughout the Charlotte metropolitan region, and our membership includes many retired clergy who remain active. The LGBTQ community is well-represented in our membership, which has recently become somewhat more racially diverse as we seek to become more inclusive and to work towards racial equity. Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina, is a growing, progressive “New South” city, and Holy Covenant is located in University City, one of its most racially diverse neighborhoods. We seek an empathetic, inclusive, dynamic pastor with excellent listening and communication skills, and the ability to lead our effort to build a bridge to a new era as we call our next settled pastor. Our collective goal with our Interim Pastor will be to identify and build upon our strengths and weaknesses in the areas of Worship, Pastoral Care, Community Outreach, and Lay Leadership.
