💛 Love in Action
Dr. Suzanne Lamorey is a deeply committed member of Holy Covenant United Church of Christ, where she serves on Consistory and leads the Mission & Justice Ministry Team. Her leadership has been instrumental in initiatives such as the monthly sandwich builds for Roof Above, diaper deliveries for asylum-seeking families, and literacy events in collaboration with ImaginOn and the Charlotte Bilingual School. Beyond her church involvement, Dr. Lamorey is an Associate Professor Emerita in Special Education and Child Development at UNC Charlotte, bringing a wealth of academic expertise to her community work. Her dedication to service, both within the church and in the broader Charlotte community, exemplifies a life lived in pursuit of justice, compassion, and transformative action.
“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?” – Micah 6:8
At Holy Covenant UCC, our Mission & Justice Ministry Team puts love into action. Grounded in our faith and driven by a deep commitment to equity, compassion, and systemic change, this team leads the way in advocating for the vulnerable, uplifting the marginalized, and building a world that more fully reflects God’s justice and joy.
Whether it’s organizing direct outreach, supporting interfaith partnerships, or amplifying the voices of those too often silenced, the work of this team echoes the Gospel’s radical call to love our neighbor—not in words alone, but in deeds.
With humility and boldness, the team creates opportunities for Holy Covenant members to learn, act, and serve. Their work includes:
Do you have a heart for service, a passion for justice, or a desire to make a difference? Whether you show up with hands ready to serve or ideas ready to grow, there’s room for your gifts here.
Holy Covenant’s Missions & Justice Ministry Team is at the heart of our church’s commitment to compassionate service and faithful action. Through a wide range of hands-on ministries and community partnerships, this team uplifts the vulnerable, feeds the hungry, welcomes the stranger, affirms every identity, and builds a more just world. From backpacks for local students to meals for unhoused neighbors, from Pride celebrations to voter empowerment — each project reflects our deep belief that love must be lived out in service. These ministries aren’t just programs — they’re sacred acts of justice, mercy, and radical welcome.
Let’s build a just and compassionate world — together. 💛
Providing housing support, nourishment, and dignity to neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Offering food and hospitality to hungry neighbors in the greater Concord area—because nourishment is a right, not a privilege.
Growing fresh produce, friendships, and food justice—right on our campus. This ministry nurtures both the earth and the soul.
Walking alongside migrant families with compassion and care—delivering clothing, sorting donations, and responding to urgent needs as neighbors helping neighbors.
From sorting socks to delivering smiles, this ministry equips migrant families with gently used household goods and essentials—offering welcome, warmth, and dignity.
Our faith is fierce, inclusive, and proud. From Pride marches to education and pastoral care, this ministry embodies God’s extravagant welcome for every gender and identity.
We gather in sacred stitchery—creating handmade quilts and blankets for children in crisis. This ministry meets trauma with tenderness, one square at a time.
We believe in the power of the written word to restore hope. This new ministry collects paperback books for people incarcerated across North Carolina—offering knowledge, encouragement, and connection.
When winter bites hard, this ministry responds with warmth—delivering tents, heaters, and vital supplies to people in housing crisis across Western North Carolina.
We walk because they walk. This annual ministry raises funds and awareness to end hunger—locally and globally—through one shared step at a time.
Each summer, we fill backpacks with essential supplies for local students—making sure every child starts the school year with dignity, confidence, and the tools to thrive.
We collect and deliver winter coats and outerwear to students at David Cox Elementary—making sure every child feels the warmth of community during the coldest months.
Each Advent season, our church family adopts children and families in need—providing Christmas gifts that wrap each recipient in hope, dignity, and the joy of being remembered.
We walk with sacred memory and bold compassion—honoring those lost to HIV/AIDS, standing with survivors, and lifting up the call for healing, dignity, and equitable care.
We put our faith into action at the ballot box—hosting nonpartisan registration events to ensure every voice is heard and every neighbor has the opportunity to be counted.
Red, Wine & Blue North Carolina is a statewide sisterhood of 36,600+ women organizing faithfully to resist extremism and strengthen democracy—especially around reproductive rights, public education, gun safety, and equitable representation.
Through local groups, training, and voter engagement, they’ve helped break extremist power, raise turnout, and shape policy—but the work continues as a lived expression of justice rooted in love.
