Your First Visit

What to Wear, Where to Park, and Why Communion Comes with Its Own Cup — Your Guide to an Extravagant, Inclusive, Come-As-You-Are First Visit to Holy Covenant UCC

Wow! Your first visit!

We know visiting a new church for the first time can be… a thing. Where do I park? What do I wear? Will I stand out like a sore thumb? Will someone make me stand up and introduce myself in front of everyone? (Spoiler alert: absolutely not.)

At Holy Covenant United Church of Christ, we believe in extravagant welcome—the kind where you don’t have to look, dress, or believe a certain way to belong. We’re a vibrant, progressive, justice-seeking, love-centered community, and you are already welcome here.

So let us ease your mind.

Here’s what you can expect when you visit:

đŸ§„ What Should I Wear?

Whatever makes you feel like you. You’ll see jeans, sneakers, dresses, slacks, sneakers with dresses, clerical stoles, and the occasional Charlotte Hornets hoodie. Come as you are—we mean it. (Yes, flip-flops count.)

🚗 Where Do I Park?

We’ve got a spacious parking lot located just off the main entrance on our beautiful campus. If you’re lucky, you might even get a spot near the front—but wherever you land, you won’t be more than a few steps away from the door and our warmest welcome.

Need accessible parking? Absolutely—we’ve got spots reserved just for that near the entrance.

đŸš» Where Are the Restrooms?

We know—very important intel. Restrooms are located in the hallways just to the left and right off our Gathering Room—the big room in front of the Sanctuary.

🍞 How Does Communion Work?

We celebrate open communion, which means everyone is welcome at Christ’s table—no exceptions, no ID check at the altar. Gluten-free? We’ve got you covered. Prefer to pass? That’s okay, too.

You’ll be invited to take a piece of bread and then a miniature cup of grape juice (no dipping involved)—we like to keep fingers out of the cup and grape juice off your clothes. Communion is offered once a month, usually on the first Sunday, as well as on special Holy Days throughout the church year.

đŸ‘§đŸœ What About the Kids?

We love kids—wiggles, whispers, crayons, and all. Children are welcome to stay in worship, or they can head to Children’s Church following the Children’s Message. Either way, expect smiles, laughter, and maybe a paper dove or two coming home in the car.

Nursery care is available for the very little ones (ages infant to preschool) with trained caregivers who are background-checked and experienced.

🙌 Prepare for an Extravagant Welcome

From the moment you walk through the doors, you’ll be greeted by friendly folks who are genuinely glad you came. Want to blend in and observe quietly? We respect that. Want to ask questions and meet people? We love that too. You’ll find coffee and conversation before and after worship, a service filled with meaning and music, and a community that celebrates love in all its forms.

Holy Covenant UCC is a place where all means all, where your story is sacred, and where God’s love is never in short supply.
